I knew a guy once whose father had disinherited him, and when he told me the reason, I thought he was having me on.
And when I tell you what he told me, you’ll probably think I’m having you on.
Anyway, according to the guy, his father and mother had been living together for more than twenty years without getting married, and he thought it was about time his father made an honest woman out of his mother. So he started to nag his father to do the right thing.
Eventually, his father relented and married his mother.
Six months later, they were divorced. And not only divorced, but estranged and living apart as well.
The guy’s father blamed him for ruining what had been, up until the time of the wedding, a perfectly happy relationship — and disinherited him forthwith.
The adage, “No good deed goes unpunished” certainly kicked in with a vengeance there.
An article I just read, reminded me of that story.
