The US Announces a $285M Cut in the UN Budget

“The U.S. Mission to the United Nations announced Sunday” that it has negotiated a $285 million reduction in the U.N.’s budget for the upcoming fiscal years, “reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions,” and “instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system.”

The announcement follows “the global body’s overwhelming vote” for a resolution “to oppose President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” and Trump’s suggestion “earlier this month that the U.S. may cut off foreign aid to nations who voted for the U.N. resolution, and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley’s statement that the U.S. would be “taking names.”

Trump’s message to the U.N. is unambiguous: You can vote against me on issues I deem important — but not with impunity.
